Travertine floor rejuvenated in Austin, TX
How to clean very dirty travertine floor?
We recently took on this project as the final step of a remodel. The Floors were in such bad shape that the client was debating on whether or not to rip them up and completely replace them. We were confident that we could restore them rather than replace them and save the client thousands.
What is the best cleaner for Travertine Floors?
First step in our process was pretreating the travertine Floors. We used a concentrated alkaline stone cleaner to dissolve the grime and dirt embedded in the stone and grout lines. This all-natural stone cleaner is effective without damaging the stone and is specially formulated to lift and break down grime, soil and grease embedded in the pours travertine surface. For daily maintenance it is best to use a PH neutral cleaner.
Scrub grout lines and tile with specialized machinery
After the pretreatment, we got to work scrubbing the floor. Attached to a weighted rotary machine we used hot water and a long bristled soft brush to scrub the surface of the stone. Ideal for cleaning uneven surfaces such as tumbled travertine, the long bristled brush is especially designed to reach into all the nooks and crannies of this pours tile. We also scrub the shallow grout lines manually as a separate step to insure the grout lines become as clean as possible
Steam Cleaning
After agitating the grout lines and scrubbing the floor it is now time to rinse and extract the surface. We rinsed and extracted the surface with our truck-mounted hot water extraction machine. Super-hot water under pressure our truck mounted machine is equipped with a specialized rinsing device called an SX-12 which allows us to thoroughly clean and rinse the stone in a contained manner with little to know over spray. The stone floor is now cleaned and sanitized like new.
Sealing Travertine Floors
We then dried the floor thoroughly after cleaning. You want to make sure the stone is completely dry before sealing to make sure you don’t seal in the moisture. Once dry we sealed the whole floor, grout lines included, with a impregnating stone sealer. The sealer is like a protective barrier that helps to prevent staining in the future and makes it easier for daily maintenance.
Travertine Restoration
The fruits of our labor were astounding. Its natural beauty restored, the travertine floor appeared much cleaner. The dirty, stained and dull surface was now clean, sealed and restored to its natural beauty
