Marble Floor Restoration. Before and After

Santa Fe Floor Care was called out to take a look at a marble floor that had been warn down over the course of several years. The home owner explained to us that they were frustrated and didn’t know much about taking care of sensitive stone floors like marble. In this case the type of marble was polished Crema Marfil Beige which is high gloss and light in color. Over time without proper care this particular variety can become dull and uneven and can lose its glassy appearance. Luckily for the clients we Santa Fe Floor Care can Restore their stone and also educate the client on how to properly care for sensitive stones.
Marble Honing and Polishing
Our technicians got right to work with the restoration process. Our first step is to hone the marble floor with diamond embedded honing pads. This process uses a 16 inch diameter circular pad under a weighted rotary machine, The machine spins the pad on the marble surface and adding water while doing so. We performed 4 passes until there was a semigloss look. The next step is to polish.
Marble Polishing
Now that the honing process is complete it is time to polish. Using the same weighted rotary machine we polish the floor using a hogs hair pad, Calcite stone polish and water. As we polished each stone tile we utilized our truck mounted steam machine to help neutralize the polishing powder as we go. Neutralizing the stone immediately after you polish is extremely important because the polishing powder can dry and re-etch the stone reversing all your progress if it is left for to long.
Marble Cleaning
The cleaning process is served for the end. Over the course of the stone restoration process there is a lot of residue from the marble and from the stone polish. We use the rotary machine to scrub the surface of the stone with a clean buffing pad, water and specialized stone cleaner. We also take this opportunity to clean the grout lines as well. Finally we use our truck mounted steam machine to rinse and extract the stone revealing the beautiful glass like appearance.
Marble Sealing
The final step is to use an impregnating stone sealer to seal the stone surface and grout. Santa Fe Floor Care always uses the highest quality sealers available because it is one of the most important steps in long term up keep of your marble surfaces.
How to clean marble?
According to the Natural Stone Institute, Use a PH neutral cleaner, stone soap, or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent with warm water and a soft cloth. These specialty cleaners can be hard to find and that is why at the end of each job we provide you with a link where you can purchase a PH neutral cleaning product directly from the manufacturer.
