At Santa Fe Floor Care, we specialize in restoring natural stone surfaces. Recently we were called to a house in Georgetown Texas to take a look at a Travertine shower that over time had developed holes, crevasses and cracks in the tiles. The client was not sure if anything could be done and was poised to spend an enormous amount of money to replace the entire shower, but we we’re able to save him thousands by restoring his tiles and saving him from the headache of a construction project.
Inspecting the problem and coming up with a solution.
The customer’s travertine stone shower had developed voids and holes in the tile walls. Over time the problem worsened and bacteria started to build up in the voids. This not only looked terrible but it was un hygienic and could lead to a serious mold problem. The client was referred to Santa Fe Floor Care by a local tile shop that knows our work and know that we have a 20 year track record of producing great results.
The Solution: filling the voids
To repair the shower, we filled the voids with a specialized polyester resin which works well with natural stone. However the real expertise comes into play when we add collar to the resin to match the natural mineral content of the stone tiles. Eery tile can be diffgerent and tiles can have multiple colors and variations which can add to the challenge of matching the colors. Our technician comes prepared with a wide array of colors which allows us to mix and match colors on the job. We fill the holes and voids with a tool that leaves a flush even surface where the voids used to be.
