Honing and Polishing Marble Counter Top
Marble counter tops are some of the most vulnerable surfaces to staining, and etching. When an acidic liquid comes into contact with your marble surface it will likely leave and etch mark that distorts the finish. These etch marks can only be removed with expert honing and polishing. We take pride in walking the clients through the process and like to provide as much or as little detail to the client as desired.
Honing: Marble Etch Removal
We use diamond embedded honing pads to cut through the damaged surface of the marble counter top. If the damage is significant, we will start with a low grit pad and work our way up to a high grit honing pad. Each honing pass is performed with a rotary hand-held machine and plenty of water to insure there is no dust.
Polishing: Marble Counter Top Polishing
Once the etch marks are removed and all stages of honing are complete, we move on to polishing. We use a specialized buffing pad along with marble polishing compound to give the stone a natural and beautiful polished finish. The polished finish is completely natural and the glass like reflectivity is the stone itself.
Marble Cleaning.
After the honing and polishing steps are complete, we do a deep but gentle cleaning. We will use a buffing pad and some PH neutral stone cleaner to gently remove any excess stone or polish residue from the surface. Ensuring the surface is clean will allow for an easy transition to the next step.
Marble Sealing
Sealing your marble surface is an important step for general long-term maintenance. It is important to know that sealing will not completely protect your surface from stains or etching.
Marble Care and Maintenance
It is important to be aware of what foods and drinks can cause your marble to etch. Acidic food product like limes, grapes, wine, and coffee all contain a PH lower than 7 and can cause the finish to become dull. Just as importantly you will need to aways use a PH neutral cleaner made for marble for general cleaning.
